Do I need to buy my own equipment right away?
No. Gadbois is a non-profit whose stated aim is to keep registration costs as low as possible and to provide the required equipment to everyone fencing at the recreational level. Come in running shoes and comfortable clothes; the club supplies the rest for your first season. Competitive fencers usually move to their own kit as they progress, and a coach will tell you when that makes sense.
What is the refund or cancellation policy?
Registration is paid per session, by Interac e-transfer, after the club confirms your place by email. Refund and cancellation terms are set by the club, not by this website. Ask before you pay and the club will confirm them in writing.
Is insurance included with the membership fee?
Every fencer must affiliate with the Fédération d’escrime du Québec, through the Canadian Fencing Federation, as step one of registration. Any insurance cover that comes with that affiliation, and what it covers, is set by the federations. Check the current terms with the federation when you affiliate, and ask the club if anything is unclear.
How do I register?
Three steps. 1. Pay the affiliation fee to the Fédération d’escrime du Québec through the Canadian Fencing Federation. 2. Send us your registration with the weapon you want — foil or épée — and the club will confirm your place and the amount to pay by email. 3. Pay the club by Interac e-transfer.
