About Gadbois Fencing Club

Montréal's premier fencing academy since 1999 - Olympic-level coaching, for every age and every level.
Our Legacy

Building Champions On And Off The Piste

Gadbois Fencing Club was founded in 1999 by Carol Sigouin on a straightforward conviction: that fencing should not be the preserve of a few. Twenty-seven years later that conviction still runs the club. We are a non-profit working in partnership with the City of Montreal, and our board keeps registration costs as low as they can go, so cost is never the reason a young fencer puts the foil down.
What began with a handful of children in the Sud-Ouest now sends athletes to national podiums and welcomes its own alumni back as coaches. Étienne Lalonde Turbide was one of three boys in that very first session. He went on to represent Canada at the London Olympics, and today he teaches on the same floor where he started.
Programme recognised by the Canadian Fencing Federation and the Fédération québécoise d'escrime
Coaching staff drawn from Olympic and national-team careers
Club equipment provided, so beginners start with nothing but running shoes
Non-profit, in partnership with the City of Montreal since 1999
Why Train With Us

What Sets Our Club Apart

Three things shape every session on our floor, and they are the reason members stay for seasons at a time.

Mastery & Discipline

Fencing rewards patience before it rewards speed. Members learn footwork before they learn to score, and the habit of doing the small thing properly carries off the piste into everything else.

Expert Coaching

A London Olympian, a coach who took the United States women's foil team to silver in Beijing, and a current high-performance coordinator at the Canadian Fencing Federation. That bench is available from your first lesson onward.

Inclusive Community

Every bout ends with a salute and a handshake. Families stay for seasons, older fencers coach the younger ones, and nobody is left at the edge of the piste waiting for a turn.
